To carry out preventive, protective and awareness-raising activities aimed at safeguarding the health of individuals and society against forms of addiction—such as tobacco, alcohol, illicit drugs, technology and gambling—which have been on the rise in recent years and pose serious risks to individual and public health; and to develop and implement intervention programmes using an interdisciplinary approach that takes into account the biopsychosocial factors leading to the development of addiction.
To be a pioneering centre that, in collaboration with the University’s relevant units, public institutions and organisations, the private sector and civil society organisations, generates scientific projects in the field of addiction at national and international levels; provides technical and academic support for the implementation of these projects; and enhances awareness and knowledge regarding substance use and the fight against addiction within the scientific community and the general public.
In line with this, the Centre aims to become a highly competitive reference centre by conducting research into the physical, psychological and social factors contributing to the development of addiction; aiming to reduce the risks of addiction through a wide range of activities such as sporting events, conferences, seminars, educational programmes, and summer and winter camps; and playing an active role in the development of national and international strategic plans.
